Setting the Standard of Guided Hunting in New Zealand

Our members are professional operators and as our founding President still reminds us to this day, ‘there are no degrees of professionalism, professionalism is a mind set and attitude, a complete way of life.’

The NZPHGA has a comprehensive training course, the Professional Hunter Academy (PHA), this academy was designed and is run by the NZPHGA, applicants must complete and pass to become members. Hunters booking with NZPHGA members can be assured that they are in the hands of competent professionals who have the full array of skills needed to make your New Zealand hunt successful, safe and second to none. 

  • All members hold accredited safety plans and current first aid certificates.

  • Members operating on pubic land hold Department of Conservation Concessions.

  • Those members who offer estate hunting are encouraged to register their properties as members of the New Zealand Association of Game Estates (NZAGE).

  • Members operating free range hunts on private land are leading the way managing sustainable wild game populations in New Zealand.

  • New applicants are required to submit a resume of his or her abilities and experience. Every membership application is assessed by the NZPHGA Executive prior to acceptance.

The NZPHGA works closely with a number of associated organisations including the NZ Game Animal Council (NZGAC), the NZ Department of Conservation (DOC) and the NZ Association of Game Estates (NZAGE) in matters relating to game animals in New Zealand. In addition, the NZPHGA is an active member of the Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand (TIA) Safari Club International (SCI) and the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC).
